Playing Catch Up

Summer is over and Michaelmas is here. Our bulbs need to be planted and I hope my green tomatoes ripen before the first frost. However, over the summer I did manage to make a couple Sorbetto Tops for myself. Here is the first. It is made out of vintage flour sack material I found at an estate sale earlier in the summer. I wore it to the first ever Denver County Fair where my daughter’s 4-H group did a chicken presentation, my husband entered the mustache contest and I sold raffle ticket for our hood’s community quilt.

Four is a Big Number

Willow turned four this past August. I find birthdays bitter sweet. I am thrilled that they are growing strong and learning new things everyday. At the same time I mourn the loss of little sweet babies. Having kids gives a whole new meaning to “time flies when you are having fun”!

I made this sweet little a-line dress for Willow for her birthday. I used this pattern and some amazingly sweet vintage fabric I found at a garage sale. This was her first day of school too. Happy Big Four Willow!

Flirting with Liberty

Anna Maria Horner has a super cute (and FREE) skirt pattern. Here is my spring version made out of new Liberty fabric I purchased at Fancy Tiger.

Also, I had to share a photo of our new (used) coffee table. It is vintage modern, probably from the 60′s, and made in India. I love it.

Pocket Monsters & a Sneak Peek

This post is a little late. I have been neglecting my blog but my sewing machine has been very very busy over the past month. Here are some little Pocket Monsters I made the girls for Halloween. The patterns are from this book. Super easy and really cute.

I have been busy whipping up some traveling crayon kits for the upcoming Holiday Handmade craft show. The fabric is from Fancy Tiger and the buttons are vintage from my stash. My girls love these crayon wallets and we don’t go anywhere without them. They have been life savers in restaurants that don’t provide paper and crayons. I hope they are a hit at the show.

Craft Trade!

There has been lots of incredible craft trades going on between the Fancy Tiger team. The lovely Emily and I made a craft trade. I made her a Mendocino Dress from some Nani Iro Fuukei double gauze fabric that was in her stash. She made me a Large Project Bag from some vintage fabric I had in my stash. Do you see how the bag is reversible? Both parties could not be more thrilled with the trade!

I was poking around Craigslist one day and came across this amazing 1964 Singer Touch & Sew! I couldn’t believe it. It is in a cabinet and had the original manual and all the accessories!

Another Smashing Smock

I did it. I made another Smashing Smock from the Seams to Me pattern book by Anna Maria Horner. Remember this? This time I made it out of a cherished piece of vintage fabric given to me by one of my favorite people in the whole world, Lois Hartman. If you don’t already know who she is, you can read more about her here. She has changed the way I parent and the way I look at life. She is an amazing woman and I can’t say enough about her. I love her.

Anyway, back to the smock. Isn’t it cute and perfect for spring/summer picnics in the park? This pattern is a good go-to pattern when you want to highlight a great piece of fabric that you don’t have tons of. It is also a dream to stitch up. Easy and fits well.

Funky Vintage Spring

I had such a wonderful time participating in the Winter Vintage Swap. My swap partner sent me the loveliest treasures.

I was also the very fortunate winner of a ridiculously cool vintage clutch. It is going to go perfectly with some of my new Spring frocks I am making.
