We had a wonderful week full of family, food and love. The big Holiday Handmade Craft Fair is less than a week away and I have become a tea towel factory. My fair booth preparations are underway and with the help of my husband my space is going to be fun. Christmas is less than four weeks away. My holiday list is made, and for the most part, most of the shopping is done. There are a few special handmade items remaining on my “to do” list. I am so excited for my daughter’s school Holiday Fair. It has become a tradition for us to get our tree that day. I am looking forward to the smell of a fresh fir needles in the house and filling up our Advent calendar with tiny surprises for Mira and Willow.

I find birthdays bitter sweet. I am thrilled that they are growing strong and learning new things everyday. At the same time I mourn the loss of little sweet babies. Having kids gives a whole new meaning to “time flies when you are having fun”!

I made this sweet little a-line dress for Willow for her birthday. I used this pattern and some amazingly sweet vintage fabric I found at a garage sale. This was her first day of school too. Happy Big Four Willow!

The bottom is made from laminated Loulouthi fabric by Anna Maria Horner. The top is made from a patchwork cotton that I found at Denver Fabrics. The size was determined by the width of the cotton and I added bias tape straps for rolling up and taking along with us.

On Wednesday’s, they each attend school for a full day. They both love it and have so much fun, but when they get home they are really tired and hungry. I want to make them each a snack mat. Something cute and comforting that can help them transition to the afternoon down time at home.

After lots of research, practice and help from this amazing mama I was able to figure out paper piecing and I think I am hooked.

Yesterday, I went shopping for more tools to help me get organized. I absolutely LOVE The Container Store! I will recycle my old desktop organizers and use them in another room. Maybe even my craft room! I bought some yummy orange ones to match my kitchen.
So, challenge day #2 was to create an inspiration space. While I was at The Container Store I bought a cork board to use/transform into my inspiration board for my craft room. More on that soon! In the meantime, check out these AMAZING craft room. I wish mine looked like that! Now that is inspirational.
Challenge day #3 – SCRUB! I scrubbed and scrubbed our upstairs bathroom. We live in a 1935 tudor bungalow. I believe the bathroom is original to the house. I love our old purple and yellow tile. I don’t love the old tub. Today, I scrubbed it until it shined. I reapplied our old Boon frog bath toy holder to the wall that has not been working for over a year. The girls were thrilled for bath night tonight! Now I have happy clean girls for their first day back to school after the holiday break!

I look forward to receiving my copy each quarter. They even have a new BLOG!
This year my husband and I decided to join forces and make a story book toy from the Winter 2011 issue. It is “The Mitten”. I can’t wait for little Willow to open this on Christmas morning.
I also made a Truth Angel for my oldest daughter Mira. Her Waldorf symbol at school is an angel. I hope it brings her some peace at night and helps her sleep more soundly. This pattern can be found in the Winter 2010 issue of Living Crafts magazine.
